For decades 1914 Third Avenue North was a must-stop, must-shop destination for the city's well-heeled. The Burger-Phillips Company was known throughout the Birmingham Metropolitan area as the premier department store in Alabama and one of the finest across the Southeast.

The art deco style
six-story building
dates back to
the 1930’s.

Architect Emory Kirkwood has preserved the historic character of the building including the first floor terrazzo floors.

"In each unit, there is some element of the historic building," said Kirkwood. "Throughout the building interior, some of the original columns and ornamental caps are retained and featured. The front exterior of the building is totally retained, including original brick work, terracotta trim, display windows and awnings. We're refurbishing the original department store entrance of Burger-Phillips, which includes Birmingham's first automatic opening doors. "
